Between Alnwick and Alnmouth. Northumberland.
Reported August 28 2011 (60)

Report from Journallive.co.uk

SUSPECT markings in a field in Northumberland are causing a stir with villagers, motorists – and one irate landowner.

People driving between Alnwick and Alnmouth are being treated to the unusual sight of four vast crop circles which have appeared in middle of a wheat field off the A1068. The spectacle has been causing people to pull over and make special trips out to the remote location just so they can study the markings, which have appeared in the past two weeks close to Alndyke Farm. One villager said: “It was Sunday when I drove past and first saw them. “Approaching the field they’re visible from quite some distance from the road and there’s been lots of people pulling over to go and see them. “It’s caused a stir among people living in the area, it’s not something you see every day in places like Northumberland. It is normally places like Wiltshire where you hear about sightings of crop circles, not here. “RAF Boulmer is just nearby and I’ve heard the helicopters overhead so assume they’re aware of them. “The largest circle must be more than eight metres wide. Even if it’s just the work of people after the pubs have shut, it’s still pretty impressive to see.”

Jubilee Plantation, Near Cherhill, Wiltshire.
Reported August 15 2011 (59)

Note;

The Cherhill farmer described this event as “vandalism”. He is preparing this field for imminent harvest and does not want anyone to enter his field under any circumstances. Please respect his wishes. After having a good look over the circle we would tend to agree with the farmer’s assessment, that the circle was mechanical constructed leaving a clear systematic process well evident. The green patch near the circle is (probably) the result of fertilizer spray missing that area, leaving that patch of wheat stunted in its growth.

As with many crop formations, the markings in the laid crop as seen in these aerial images clearly shoe / demonstrate a construction process that involves the laying down of the crop in strips – which often leaves visible ridges between those strips when viewed from above.

We visited this circle event on the ground some ten days after the initial report of its existence. Due to the hype and intrigue that has surrounded the reporting of this event our approach was made with a measure of real caution. Early reports from the scene had indicated that there was an on-going “security situation” at or very close to the crop circle, which was described by the CCC (cropcircleconnector.com) crew as “a matter of national security” , Indeed, the first visitors to this formation (CCC) were approached (they say) by officers and were left frightened by the encounter. Our investigation into this situation has concluded that there is/was no on-going security matter at the site and therefore there is no reason whatsoever why proper information regarding this crop circle can not be put into the public arena for general consideration. We spent an uneventful ninety minutes at the site examining the circle and the immediate surrounding area. Observations on the ground are fully covered in the photos and videos below. Our overall conclusion was, considering the regular and repetitive patterns of damage across the entire formation, that this event was constructed on the ground with the use of mechanical devices. The farmer is preparing this field for imminent harvest and asks that no persons attempt to enter the formation. He stated that he was perfectly happy for us to publicize the circle but asked that the location be withheld as he does not want people trespassing on his land. There is a high probability that the police will be on the scene fast if the field is entered against the wishes of the farmer – please respect his position

We examined this event early on day one. We found a clear pattern of crushing to the laid wheat that left us in no doubt that this was a hoax crop circle and amounted to nothing more significant than a ‘pretty’ pattern in a field…. Of course, to the farmer it is a massive police of vandalism – and to the police it is simply criminal damage…

Reported 20th July 2011 (37)

This crop circle was first spotted from the air by a local microlight pilot at around 11:30 am on July 20 2011. It is reported that numerous people flew directly over this field during the morning of the 20th and all, thus far, have reported that there was no circle in that field prior to the 11:30 sighting. On the ground the circle was heavily pressed into the soggy field. Even though there was obvious evidence that the circle had been heavily visited during the hour or so prior to our arrival, we noted a lack of heavy compression damage to the peripheral areas of the laid crop area. Much of the rest of the laid area was heavily trampled by (one presumes) the earlier visitors – then further added to by us. The laid wheat was found to be bent and/or kinked over at various heights above the soil in the less trampled areas. The circle is 98 feel diameter, more or less perfect circle. Curious pattern to the crop lay.

Report From Dave Dawson.

Just to reiterate …… Having spotted Tony Hughes in the air around The Barge at 10am I decided to visit the Wilthire Microlight Centre (arrival time as per 15 mins before my call to you Charles) whereupon Tony was just returning from a flight and confirmed the existence of a new event. not in Alton Barnes as I suspected but across the A4 road opposite his hangar and visible after a walk up the brow of the hill. Tony was adamant that he had just returned and found the formaton on his path back, the field being clean 20 minutes earlier on his path out. The weather was poor thus eradicating the possibility of sun reflections restricting the view of a possible circle on the flight out

Report From Monique Scho;ten.
Dear Charles,
As you know I (try) to fly every morning to check out the area. I want to inform you that I flew this morning around 9.20 over Knoll (and that area) and that there was no formation at that time. I am complete sure about this. In the formation I also to people (Annemiek Loots and Jan Willem Verkerk from the Netherlands) who told me that they flew over Knoll around 10.15 and that there was no formation at that time.

Witness testimony from Jan and Annemeike. who saw the Cherhill Down field with no crop circle in it at around 10 am on July 20 .
Additional statement by Jan and Annemeike..

On July 24th we both flew again. Jan Willem specifically asked pilot Andy Jones to fly in the exact same way over the field as he did on the 20th. So he did. This time Jan Willem saw the formation rightaway, as did Annemieke who flew with pilot Tony Hughes. The formation was quite obvious. It was impossible to miss (especially when you’re flying over the fields to take photgraphs of cropcircles). This fact makes us absolutely certain that there was no cropcircle in this particular field when we flew over it on July 20th.

This formation displayed some physical characteristics that sets it aside from the standard hoax model. Of particular note was the almost total absence of physical damaged to laid plants examined in the circle – as opposed to the man made formations that display a regular pattern of damage over the whole event that is consistent with foot treading plank work.

A good example of what people are capable of creating in terms of patterns in crop fields. We recommend that all serious seekers of a clear understanding of what really happens in the crop circle subject make a real effort to examine these commissioned works in order to better understand the cc hoaxer construction mechanics – to be later used as a measure against the ‘other’ formations.

On approaching the field I could see that a wire fence had been cut away in a large section, odd because access was easy as there was a gate with no lock. Crop nearly as tall as me, 5’3, no tracks so “whoever” created this formation used the tramlines, and obviously if there have been visitors they were respectful and used the tram lines also, having said that I don’t think anyone had been on the ground prior to us, of course I could be wrong….. Lots of damage and breakage at the base of the plants, scrape marks on stems, indicating mechanical creation rather than something anomalous.
